Driver, 38, docked over alleged reckless driving, manslaughter

A 38-year-old driver, Olakunle Ayoola, who allegedly drove a Toyota Camry recklessly and killed a student, was on Monday brought before an Okitipupa Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ondo State.

The police charged Ayoola with three counts of reckless driving, driving without driver’s licence and manslaughter.

The prosecutor, Insp. Zedekiah Orogbemi, told the court that the defendant, on January 9, around 4.30 p.m., at Compedium School along Okitipupa-Ode Erinje road, drove recklessly on public highway without drivers licence and allegedly killed Ms Temitope Inuepelano, 19.

Orogbemi said the defendant drove the car with registration No: Abuja YAB 759 A recklessly caused the death of Inuepelano who was returning home from school.

He said that the offence contravened and is punishable under sections, 18(5), 18 (1) and 7(1), Road Law, Cap.136, Vol.3, Laws of Ondo State 2006.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to charges.

Chief Magistrate Musa Al-Yunus admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Al-Yunus ordered that the sureties must have landed properties within the court’s jurisdiction.

He also ordered that the sureties must present evidence of one year tax clearance.

Al-Yunus adjourned the case until February 21 for further hearing. (NAN)
