The trial of the suspended Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Walter Onnoghen, took a different turn, on Monday, when a witness on the matter approached to court with a script.
It was reported that when Onnoghen opened his defence on allegations of fraudulent declaration of assets, the witness, Lawal Olanrewaju Busari, who introduced himself as the CJN’s official driver, took the oath and entered the witness box.
However, shortly after the oath was administered on Busari, during cross-examination, Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), who is also the defence lawyer, asked a series of questions on his relationship with Onnoghen.
Awomolo also inquired from Busari how he was sent to purchase and receive the forms on behalf of the defendant.

While, this went on, the prosecution counsel, asked Busari to hand over the paper in his hand to the Code of Conduct Tribunal chairman, Danladi Umar.
It was later discovered that the paper contained written answers to questions of the defence counsel.
Following this, the court further admitted the script found on the witness as an exhibit.
The court also admitted the receipt for the purchase of the asset declaration form of the former CJN as evidence D2 and threw out the receipt of the acknowledgement of the declaration form.
The CCT chairman in his ruling said that the acknowledgement was not relevant to the matter. Umar further adjourned the trial to Wednesday, April 3.
