President Muhammadu Buhari has condemned the killing of Sylvester Oromoni, a student of Dowen College, Lagos State, and assured Nigerians that the case would be thoroughly investigated with appropriate punishment handed out to those responsible.
This was disclosed in a statement by his media aide, Malam Garba Shehu, on Thursday.
The Presidency stated that the late Oromoni is one of ”our bright youngsters doing excellently in school, bringing joy to the family. ”
President Buhari stated that if Oromoni lost his life from bullying or cultism, then it must act as a trigger leading to a permanent solution to this recurring problem.
“I share the anger and grief up and down the country following this incident.
”On behalf of my family and I, and the government of the federation, I convey our heartfelt condolences to the Oromoni family, the government and people of Lagos State and give the firm assurance that this incident will be thoroughly investigated and the appropriate punishment meted out to all those who are culpable,” Buhari said.
The Presidency urged the Police to continue the investigation until justice is done.
The Nigerian Xpress also reported that Former vice president Atiku Abubakar has joined Nigerians calling for justice over the death of 12-year-old Sylvester Oromoni, who was tortured by fellow students at Dowen College, Lagos.
We shall be failing in our duties as parents/guardians, administrators, security agencies and government if we do not get to the bottom of the case of late Sylvester Oromoni.
“It is beholden upon us to enthrone a safe environment in our schools. #Justiceforsylvester,” Mr Abubakar tweeted on Friday evening.
