Policemen attached to the Area ‘D’ command, Mushin, in Lagos State, have arrested two people, Arifayan Tosin and Raymond, for allegedly stealing a Toyota Highlander SUV from a bhsinessman at No. 20 Mustapha Street, in Egan, Igando area of the state.
The suspects had reportedly connived with a domestic help of the car owner, identified as Goodluck, to steal the SUV, on April 29, at about 10:30am.
The case was reported at the Igando Police Division by the daughter of the car owner, Mrs. Abiola Abegunde.
Mrs. Abegunde disclosed that on the day the car was stolen, she had gone to fix her phone at Olokode Street, a neighbouring street, leaving behind her mother, her three-year-old daughter and Goodluck, the domestic help.
According to her, “While I was fixing my phone, I heard the sound of our gate opening and when I looked closely I saw Goodluck opening the gate for my father’s highlander jeep.

“I shouted thief, thief, but to my greatest surprise, Goodluck joined them and they took reverse out of the street into the adjoining street which is Busari Street.
“I kept shouting thief! thief!! to convince passersby. At that instance, two bikemen followed them but they were very fast and zoomed off.
“That was when I went to the Igando Police Station to incident the case immediately.”
It was gathered that luck ran out on the suspects when, two days after, they had attempted to sell the SUV at the popular Ladipo market.
A police source, who gave details on how the suspects were arrested said, “ On May 1, at about 5:30pm, Tosin went to Ladipo market, Mushin, Lagos, to sell the said Toyota highlander jeep with Registration No. LSR392DE. He had pretended saying the owner of the jeep was his father.
“He told the prospective buyer that his father instructed him to sell the jeep. Unfortunately the buyer called the phone number in the particulars of the jeep, where he was told the vehicle was removed from where it was parked at Igando.
“On hearing this, the prospective buyer immediately contacted the Area Commander ‘D’, Mushin, ACP Akinbayo Olasoji, who mobilised police officers and got the first suspects arrested.
“Further investigations led to the arrest of the second suspect, Ramond Ado, a security guard with Fundamental Guard attached to Ajose Street, Mende, Maryland, while his duty post at the time of arrest was Maxton Suites and Hotel.”
Investigation was said to still be ongoing to arrest the other fleeing suspects.
