Team Bayelsa in the ongoing third edition of the Gov. Dickson National Wrestling Classics has vowed to retain its title.
Victor Kodei, the head coach of Bayelsa State Wrestling Association, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Yenagoa that an overall win was the target of the state contingent.
NAN reports that Bayelsa won the second edition in 2017 with a total of 22 medals, consisting of 13 gold, six silver and three bronze.
“Our target is to win when the tournament ends. We are the host and we will use the home advantage to ensure our victory,” he said.

He said the state’s contingent won almost all the medals in the last edition, adding that it would surpass the record in the ongoing championship.
“We are ready for this competition and we are aiming higher than we achieved at the last edition.
“Our athletes have indeed prepared so hard for this competition; they trained rigorously even though we didn’t have a close camping.
“We had an open camp where they were training at home and we had days when they all trained together,” said Kodei. (NAN)
