Two-time Commonwealth Games wrestling champion, Odunayo Adekuoroye, on Friday said that she will be representing the Mountain of Fire Ministry (MFM) Wrestling Club in the upcoming 3rd Governor Dickson Wrestling Championships in Yenagoa.
Adekuoroye, who had previously represented Ondo State in wrestling competitions, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on telephone in Ibadan that she would no longer represent the state.
She claimed that the authorities in Ondo State do not appreciate other sports except football.
The four-time African Champion said: “I have made up my mind not to represent Ondo State at the 3rd Governor Dickson Wrestling Championships next month.
“The state government has refused to fulfill promises made to wrestlers in the past.

“When we returned from the 2018 Commonwealth Games, a promise was made to host victorious athletes, but till date, nobody has seen the governor.”
The World Silver medallist told NAN that there was no training equipment or facilities in the indoor hall to cater for their needs, adding that the impediment did not prevent them from winning laurels for the state.
“I stand to be corrected; there are no training equipment and facilities in Ondo State. The reason why some of us are excelling is because of our passion for the sports.
“The governor is only concentrating on Sunshine Stars which cannot even win the CAF Championship League,’’ she added. (NAN)
