Davido (real name David Adeleke), a popular Nigerian music star, has disclosed that he would give out the entire N200million donated to him by friends and fans on his birthday to orphanages in Nigeria.
The Omo Baba Owo (OBO) crooner also said he would add N50million of his own money, bringing the entire sum to be given to charity to N250million.
The music star had revealed that friends and fans donated N200million to his bank account within 72 hours.
Davido made his intention for the fund known on Saturday, November 20, 2021 via posts on his Twitter and Instagram pages.
“I am delighted to announce that all the funds received totalling N200,000,000 will be donated to orphanages across Nigeria as well as the Paroche Foundation.”
According to the crooner, a committee had been set up to oversee the distribution of the largesse to various orphanages in the country.
Davido had opened an account with Wema Bank and shared the details, calling out friends and fans to donate money to him for use to clear his Rolls Royce.
Within minutes, the account swelled by millions, as his lovers, including fellow entertainers, business moguls and socialites, fell over one another to donate.
His banker, Wema Bank seized the moment with an online post, saying “Na bank wey Davido dey use we go dey use now.”
According to Punch, quoting the singer’s lawyer, Bobo Ajudua, shared pictures of Davido and Wema Bank officials with the caption, “Wema Bank finally touch down from Lagos. Ent law life will have you doing meetings at the wildest hours.” (sic)
Reposting the post on his Instagram story, Davido said, “@wema_bank couldn’t wait”, revealing his location as the United Arab Emirates.
Among those that donated to the Davido fund were billionaire oil magnate, Femi Otedola and billionaire businessman cum club owner, Obi Cubana.
Seyi Tinubu, son of the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, while making his own donation requested Davido to throw a free concert for his fans.

Also, sensational music twins, Paul and Peter of the Psquare fame, called out Nigerians to also donate to them, as they turn 40 years of age.
Davido, the father of three, also disclosed his plans to raise money annually for the cause of charity.
