Daura Community College matriculates 1,254 students

The Daura Community College of Arabic and Islamic Studies matriculated no fewer than 1,254 newly- admitted students to pursue various diploma programmes for 2018/2019 academic session.

Dr Abdulaziz Ahmed, Provost of the College, who addressed the students in Daura on Monday, said that their admission into the college was based on competence and academic qualifications displayed at the point of entry.

He cautioned the students against indulging in inimical activities that were detrimental to their academic, social and moral progress.

“We will not condone examination malpractices, drug abuse or other deviant behaviour. You should concentrate on your studies to achieve your academic ambition of becoming successful graduates, who will graduate with good result irrespective of areas of specialisation.

The era of low academic performance is over as universities will consider your grade before they offer you admission,’’ he said.

Ahmed said the students were offered admission to study diploma in education -based courses like Mathematics/Education; Social Studies/Education, Library and Information Science, Arabic Education and other related courses.

“We offer diploma programmes in nine academic disciplines. All the academic courses are affiliated to the Institute of Education of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria.

“Admission into degree programmes for those who desire to further their education after completing their two-year programme in this college, is available at ABU, ’’ he explained.

Alhaji Abba Yahaya- Baure, the Chairman, Governing Council of the College, said that the management had constructed 14 additional classrooms, 50-capacity school library and three administrative blocks for conducive teaching and learning environment.

He said the secondary school section of the college was also provided with three laboratories for physics, chemistry and biology to enhance teaching and learning of science and technical-based courses.

Malam Lawal Maiadua, Deputy Provost of the College, who congratulated the students, urged them to be committed to their studies by being good ambassadors of the college.

According to him, the college diploma programmes end in four academic semesters and a maximum of four years which is eight semesters.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that it costs over N60 million to expand the college and to procure additional instructional materials toward effective teaching and learning. (NAN)
