Nigerians expressed shock that Onigbinde, who spent the better part of the last four years criticising the Muhammadu Buhari administration would accept an appointment from the same the government he vehemently criticised.
Others said he accepted the appointment to fix the very things he criticized.
Many social media users had dug up tweets by Onigbinde in which he called the Buhari government inept and corrupt and advised people not to vote Buhari for a second term.
This has prompted the BudgIT founder to delete his Twitter account and not before users had grabbed some of his tweets.
Joe Abbah, who got a federal appointment recently, advised people to be careful how they lampoon governments as they may end up serving the same government that talk ill about.
Onigbinde is yet to publicly comment on the appointment but a document circulation on social media shows he has been appointed into the office of Budget and National Planning.
