No less than 600 benefitted from the empowerment program of a Lagos lawmaker, Hon. Gbolahan Yishawu, which was aimed at bringing succor to those in his constituency.
Hon. Yishawu, who represents Eti-Osa Constituency 02 in the Lagos House of Assembly, gave out cash gifts, working tools and a mini bus to beneficiaries.
Addressing newsmen at his 8th annual micro-business and social support programme for aged, widows and youths, Hon. Yishawu explained the need to support his people most especially at this challenging time that Covid-19 has affected businesses.
The lawmaker said in adherence to COVID-19 protocols, the programme was spread to three days.

Said he, “What we have done is to empower our youth most especially those who benefited from our free JAMB Forms distribution earlier in the year, and who successfully gained admission.
“We gave them cash grants, including the aged and widows among us. It is fulfilling for us to reach out to our people.
“During elections, we made different promises and we need to fulfill them. So, this programme, amongst others is what we are doing to give back to our people”, he said.
Hon. Yishawu, who is the Chairman House Committee on Budget and Economic Planning, also emphasised the need to take care of the aged, saying it is certain that everyone will grow old and die.
Part of the items distributed included: sewing machines, pressure washer, cake mixer, clippers and generators.
Others were work tools, groceries peculiar to certain trades such as drinks, cartons of noodles, bags of slippers, to mention a few.
Responding, the beneficiaries who expressed their joy appreciated the lawmaker for his kind gesture and prayed for him.
Mr. Lukman Usman from Ward C, who got a mini bus, was full of praises for the lawmaker saying, “he has given my family a life line for survival.”
Mrs. Alice Ejeh, Woman leader of Ward C said her children had benefited a lot from his empowerment programmes and prayed for the strength to continue his good work.
Mr. Godwin Okeke, while thanking Hon. Yishawu urged other Nigerian leaders to emulate his kind gesture.
In her contribution, Woman leader of Ward B, Mrs. Oyinlola Ayodele, said apart from her benefitting from his programmes, he also assisted her while in the hospital.
Mrs. Charity Ikaaro, a widow said the lawmaker made provisions for JAMB for her children and since then, she has been benefitting from his different programmes.
