Court sentences mechanic to 21 years in prison for raping a minor

An Upper Area Court III, sitting in Kasuwan Nama in Jos, on Wednesday, sentenced a 21-year-old mechanic , Abdulrahim Mustapha to 21 years in prison for raping a 9-year-old girl.

The judge, Yahaya Mohammed, who sentenced Mustapha without an option to pay fine, said it would serve as a deterrent to others who would want to indulge in such crime.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the case was reported on April 5, at the Laranto Police Station by one Yusuf Dada of Rikkos village Jos, who is the complainant.

Gokwat said that Mustapha tricked the 9-year-old girl into buying him pure water for him and dragged her into an uncompleted building and raped her.

“This same accused raped a 13-year-old girl a day earlier while she was sleeping in her room, “said Gokwat.

On arraignment, the accused pleaded guilty to the charge and begged the court for leniency.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 257 of the Penal Code Law. (NAN)
