Court remands NURTW member for allegedly attacking a hotel guest

An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday remanded a member of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Jamiu Olalekan, 28, in Kirikiri Prisons for allegedly attacking and robbing a hotel guest.

The police charged Olalekan, who resides at No. 6, Bashorun St., Ijora Oloye, Lagos State, with two counts of armed robbery.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. M.I. Dan-Oni, who did not take the plea of the defendant, ordered that the case file be sent to the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions for advice, adjourned the case until May 9 for mention.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Victor Eruada, told the court that Olalekan and others still at large, allegedly committed the offence on March 9, 2018 at 4 p.m. at Romes 69 Hotel, Located at Agbodegba St., Ijora Oloye in Lagos State.

Eruada alleged that Olalekan, who was armed with one locally made single barrel short gun, cutlasses and broken bottles stormed the hotel attacked one Raheem Etti, and robbed him of his N80,000 cash.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 299 and 297 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. (NAN)
