Court remands man for allegedly stabbing friend during argument over expensive wristwatch

An Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court ordered that a 29-year-old man, Bareehu Orolade, accused of allegedly stabbing his friend with a scissors during an argument over whose wristwatch was more expensive be remanded in prison, pending legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The police charged Ogunlaja, who resides at No. 5, Oke Eletu-Ijede, Ikorodu, with murder.

Chief Magistrate O.O. Olatunji, who remanded the accused in Ikoyi Prison, said that the court lacked jurisdiction to entertain the matter

Olatunji adjourned the matter until April. 8. His plea was not taken.

The Prosecutor, ASP Clara Olagbayi, told the court that the accused committed the offence on February 14, at 6 p.m., at Lukham Hotel, Oke Eletu, Ijede, Ikorodu.

She alleged that the defendant stabbed his friend, Abel Joseph, with a scissors during an argument on whose wristwatch was more expensive.

Olagbayi said that the offence, which contravened the provisions of Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 carries a death sentence. (NAN)
