Justice I. A Uzakah of the Bayelsa State High Court in Yenagoa on Friday banned a proposed rally in support of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike in Bayelsa scheduled for April 12.
The court stopped the rally being organized by George Turnah and Wike.
pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice filed by the Attorney-General of Bayelsa State, Biriyai Dambo SAN.
The Attorney-General had dragged Wike, George, the Nigeria Police Force, the Inspector-General of Police and the Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Police Command before the court following a plan by George and Wke to stage a rally in the state.
The move follows the presence of the suspended Rivers State governor Sim Fubara in Bayelsa who is being accommodated by the Bayelsa State governor, Duoye Dori.
President Bola Tinubu had suspended Fubara and Rivers State House of Assembly as a result of political crisis between the governor and Wike and imposed emergency rule on the state.
In his ruling, Justice Uzakah restrained the organisers from going ahead with their rally.
“An order of the interim injunction is hereby made or granted restraining the 1st and 2nd Defendants, whether by themselves, their agents, associates, privies, representatives (or any person whatsoever acting at their behest), from conducting, convening, coordinating, engaging in, organizing, participating in, holding, hosting, or facilitating any political assembly, rally meeting, or gathering within Bayelsa State for solidarity, hosting and celebrating the 2nd Defendant in Bayelsa State, pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice for Interlocutory Injunction.”
The matter was adjourned to April 11, 2025, for hearing.
