Court adjourns arraignment of suspected teenage cocaine peddler

A Federal High Court in Lagos State on Tuesday adjourned arraignment of one 19-year-old Gabby Alade charged with dealing on cocaine and heroin.

The defendant was charged by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on two counts bordering on drug trafficking.

The arraignment slated Tuesday could not take place as Justice Maureen Onyetenu was not available.

The judge was said to be on another official assignment.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a new date for the arraignment will be communicated to parties in the suit.

In count one of the charge, the NDLEA accused the teenager of dealing on 9.1g of heroin on December 4, 2018, at a place called Marssy on Lagos Island.

In count two, the defendant was alleged to have dealt on one gramme of cocaine on the same date and place.

According to the Prosecutor, Mr. Jeremiah Aernan, drug trafficking contravenes the provisions of Sections 11(c) of the NDLEA Act, Cap N30, Laws of the Federation, 2004. (NAN)
