A Catholic clergy, pastoring in United States of America, Rev. Fr. Dr. Peter Omogo, has empowered over 40 indigent people, in Ebonyi communities, with series of essential items.
The items included a brand new car, motorcycles, sewing machines undisclosed amount of money and commissioned over 45 water boreholes within and beyond communities, without discrimination of clan, religion or sex.
Rev. Fr. Omogo gave out the gift items at his home town Ikpomkpuma Umuoguduoshia in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
The event which started with Holy Mass in his family house was characterised by amazement, joy and relief to the needy in the affected communities.
In a chat with newsman shortly after the giving out the gift items, Rev. Fr. Omogo, disclosed that his gift to the people was in fulfilment of one of his life’s goals of touching lives of people positively, adding that the gift items were part of gifts from his friends.
According to him, “a gift is a blessing when it is shared to others.”
Rev. Fr. Omogo, who is the Executive Director of Samuel Omogo Foundation, explained that the foundation came out of necessity when his lovely brother Samuel Omogo died long ago.
His words, “I have wonderful friends in United States of America, those that are really passionate about touching lives of people for better.
“They asked me what they can do for in memory of my late brother Samuel who trained me in the Seminary. They said what about Samuel Omogo water well, and that was how the foundation came to be.
“They have been helping me and the foundation has grown. Our major area of focus are; provision of water, education materials and health.
“In 2022, we drilled 43 water boreholes Wells in various communities in Ebonyi State free of charge to reduce prevalent rate of water bore diseases, and that brought the number not water boreholes drilled by the foundation since inception to 528 (five hundred and twenty eight)”
Speaking in the event, Very Rev. Fr. Gabriel Owoh, advised communities that got the free water boreholes not to restrict people from fetching water from the water well at any point in time, urging them to make judicious use of their gift and extend the benevolence to others.
Dr. Rosemary Igwe affirmed that the major focus of the foundation was to curb the problem of water scarcity which occasioned by a lot of social vices, rape on women, children not going to school as a result not search for water. He added that education is not left out, many undergraduate have received cash, laptops etc from the foundation.
One of the beneficiaries in the 2023 of the foundation love sharing was a undergraduate of Alex Ekwume University Ndufu Alike Ikwo in Ebonyi State, Jeremiah Ominyi who described the gift as amazing, thanked the benefactor, stating that the sewing machine has made him self reliant and employed
Many other beneficiaries who couldn’t absorb their feelings burst out with ties of joy when their names were mentioned to receive the gifts.
