The United States of America based patron of Enugu Rangers, Benson Ezeomeogo Ejindu has commended business mogul, Femi Otedola for redeeming his pledge of supporting Christian Chukwu’s treatment.
Otedola on Wednesday doled out N18m for Chukwu’s treatment abroad, a donation that was made in the presence of Enugu State governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and other football stakeholders.
Ejindu who first drew public attention to Chukwu’s condition had himself lifted the Nigerian football legend with a donation of N.3m.
Ejindu in a telephone chat with The Nigerian Xpress Sports from North Carolina, said he was impressed with Otedola’s magnanimous gesture, even as he charged other Nigerians to emulate him.
“I want to say a big thank you to Otedola. He has shown that he is a Nigerian to be trusted as he has matched words with action. I hope those in the Glass House would do same and set up the Foundation they talked about for the welfare of our Legends,” Ejindu said.
The Rangers patron said he has been in touch with Chukwu and in fact spoke with him a few days back.
“I am also happy Chukwu is in high spirits after I spoke with him. He (Chukwu) is a great man and I thank God Nigerians are rallying round him. I pray all those who served the country would not be allowed to suffer when they need the government.”
It would be noted that the Enugu state government on Wednesday offered Chukwu’s son Emeka, automatic employment as part of government’s assistance and commitment to the family’s wellbeing.
