Chinese expatriate shot dead at mining site in Ebonyi

A Chinese expatriate, whose name was not revealed, had been reportedly shot dead in Ebonyi State.

The Nigerian Xpress gathered that the incident occurred at a mining site at Iboko in Izzi Local Government Area of the state, last weekend.

It was also gathered that the hoodlums disarmed the police orderly of the deceased and killed him during the attack leaving the orderly.

Meanwhile, the Executive Chairman of Izzi council. Barr. Steve Emenike, who confirmed the incident, expressed bitterness over the ugly development, describing it as a national embarrassment.

Barr. Emenike explained that the hoodlums came on a motorcycle and carried out the dasterted act in Otam Village in Izzi LGA.

He said that the LGA had already swung into action by reconstuting a formidable vigilante group and banned the operation of motorcycles between the hours of 7pm and 6am untill further notice.

“We are working with security agencies including the police and the DSS to nip the ugly incident in the bud and ensure the arrest of all the suspects involved in the killing.

“We can no longer accept or tolerate the spread of insecurity, adding that Izzi LGA is peaceful and we intend to sustain the peace for the well being of the people.

The Police spokesperson of Ebonyi State Police Command, SP Chris Anyanwu when contacted said that his office was yet to be notified of the incident.

However, the corpse of the victim has been evacuated and reportedly deposited at the mortuary in Abakaliki.
