Change of guards in Anambra: Soludo steps in as Obiano takes a bow

Anthony Iwuoma

Anambra State is agog, as former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo, today takes over the reins of governance from the outgoing Governor Willie Obiano.

Soludo, who is the sixth democratically elected governor of the state, emerged victorious in the November 6, 2021 gubernatorial election on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) dusting the liked of Senator Andy Uba.

An exceptionally brilliant man, Soludo’s interest in politics, especially in the governorship position in Anambra, received loud ovation in Nigeria and across the globe because people believe he has the needed potentials to transform the state.

Moreover, many considered him an unusual politician shorn of the blemishes that tainted many politicians in the country.

Before serving as the Central Bank governor, he had previously served as Chief Economic Adviser to President Olusegun Obasanjo and Deputy Chairman/Chief Executive of National Planning Commission. He excelled in all these offices without any controversy.

Soludo, a Professor of Economics and a consultant to many world bodies, has won the hearts of many through his comportment and utterances.

He has, against the usual fanfare occasioned by such events, decided to have a quiet swearing-in ceremony, involving a handful of people.

Soludo has also promised to clean up the slums of Anambra and make them habitable; patronise local products as well as boost local industries.

Considering his pedigree, the expectations of the people are high and it is not in doubt though that Soludo has all it takes to deliver good governance to the good people of Anambra State in particular, and to Nigerians, who have for long been denied the  desirable dividends of democracy.
