CAN saddened over killings in Taraba

The Jalingo Local Government Area coordinator of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Lawrence Tata, on Monday, expressed sadness over the continues killings between grazers and farmers in the state.

Tata while expressing the position of the Christian body over renewed killings in the state described the incessant killings in the state as unfortunate, saying the situation should not be allow to continue.

He condemned the Jukun/Tiv crisis in Wukari local government, saying the crisis was the handiwork of criminals and some desperate citizens who are out to disrupt the peace and progress of the state which governor Darius Ishaku has in store for the people of the state.

While calling on security agencies to step up the fight against criminals in the state, the CAN coordinator called on grazers to stop onslaught on farming communities.

“The report we got from the Jalingo crisis is that, trouble started when a Fulani man with his cattle entered the maize farm of a Kona man and eat off the crops.

“We gathered that, the Kona man approached the grazer for compensation which sparked off the crisis.

“This is so disheartened, we condemned this act in total, it’s unacceptable and we are calling on the government to beef up security to stop this unfortunate.

Tata warn those trying to turn the scenario into a religious crisis to desist as the state cannot afford to go into a religious crisis.
