Bus conductor arraigned for raping 59-year-old woman, armed robbery

A 30-year old bus conductor identified as Wale Hassan was arraigned before an Ikeja Special Offences Court, Lagos, for allegedly raping a 59- year-old woman and involving in armed robberies.
The suspect, a father of two children, is facing a five-count charge, bodering on rape contrary to Section 260z of the criminal law C.17 vol 3 laws, and conspiracy to commit armed robbery, which contravened Section 297(z)(a), 299 of the criminal law C.17 vol 3 laws of the state.
Hassan, who operates at Ikorodu garage, was said to have committed the offences, armed with “dangerous weapons” at odd hours of May 30, 2017 in Ikorodu.

The state prosecution counsel, Peter Owolabake, in a statement, said: “Wale Hassan, on May 30, 2017 at about 22:00 hours, at No.3 Iyabo Olanipekan Street, Ijede, Ikorodu, Lagos, within the Ikeja judicial division whilst armed with dangerous weapon locally made double barrel shot gun had unlawful carnal knowledge of the victim (name withheld by us), aged 59 years old”.
He further stated that the accused used a locally made double barrel short gun and cutlass to rob one Chief (Mrs. ) Tijani Febishola of her jewelry, a Samsung galaxy note cell phone and N10,000.
“On May 30, 2017 at about 22:00 hours in the Ikeja judicial division whilst armed with dangerous weapon to wit: locally made double barrel short gun and cutlass to rob one Chief (Mrs.) Tijani Febishola of her jewelry valued at N5,000,000, a Samsung galaxy note mobile phone valued at N10,000 and a cash sum of N20,000

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.
In view of the suspect’s plea, the prosecution counsel appealed that the court should remand him  in the correctional facility.
In ruling, Justice Abiola Soladoye adjourned the case until March 23, 2020 for trial.
