Buhari renews Accountant-General, Ahmed Idris’ tenure

President Muhammadu Buhari has renewed the tenure of the Accountant General of the Federation (AGF) Ahmed Idris.

The Director of Communications, Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Wunmi Ogunmosunle, announced the appointment in a statement, on Wednesday, in Abuja.

It should be noted that this is coming after heavy criticism of the president’s refusal to make appointments three weeks after his inauguration for his second term.

According to the director, Idris’ letter of appointment was signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha. Ogunmosunle also said that the appointment takes effect from Tuesday, June 25.

“The president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of Mr. Ahmed Idris for the second and final term of four years as Accountant General of the Federation (AGF), in accordance with Section 171 of the 199 Constitution of Nigeria (as amended),” she said.

It was also gathered that Idris, who was first appointed in June 2015, was the director of finance and account at the Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development.

Idris had also served as director of finance and accounts at the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) headquarters, in Abuja.
