Brothers docked over alleged assault of LASTMA official

Two brothers, Ochuko Abuwa, 38, and Oniyemofe, Abuwa, 30, were on Monday docked at a Surulere Chief Magistrates Court in Lagos, charged with assaulting a LASTMA official.

The defendants, who are of no fixed addresses, were charged with conspiracy, assault, damage to property and breach of public peace.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp. Christopher Okoliko, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on January at Ogunlana Drive, Surulere, Lagos.

He alleged that the defendants on the fateful day, time and place, beat up one Mr Oluwarotimi Disu, an official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).

The prosecutor submitted that the duo tore Disu’s official uniform and beret as well as stirred up an uproar that caused a breach of public peace.

Okoliko said the offences contravened Sections 168, 172, 350 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The brothers, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Mrs Bola Folarin-Williams, granted the brothers bail in the sum of N100, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

Folarin-Williams said the sureties should be gainfully employed and show evidence of their tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The case was adjourned until February 25 for mention. (NAN)
