The Supreme Court on Wednesday resolved the protracted leadership tussle rocking the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA.
The apex court upheld Sylvester (Sly) Ezeokenwa as the National Chairman of the party thus finally bringing the contention to an end.
A ₦20 million fine was slammed on Edozie Njoku, one of the claimants to the chairmanship of the party for filing a frivolous suit at the FCT High Court in Bwari.
The Federal High Court in Abuja had earlier restrained Njoku from parading as the party’s chairman.
Justice James Omotosho had ruled that there was no valid court order, including any from the Supreme Court, recognising Njoku as the party’s chairman.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had earlier listed Njoku’s faction on its website, replacing Ezeokenwa and his executive officers.
However, APGA and Ezeokenwa filed a suit challenging this decision, and contended that Njoku’s claim lacked legal backing.
In its ruling, the Supreme Court recognised Ezeokenwa and his team as the authentic national executive officers of APGA and also directed INEC to restore their names as such.
