(BREAKING) Organ Harvesting: UK Court jails Ike Ekweremadu 10-yrs, wife 6-yrs

Reports reaching The Nigerian Xpress now indicates that a former Deputy Senate President, Sen. Ike Ekweremadu has been sentenced to 10 years, 6 months imprisonment by a UK court for organ harvesting.

His wife, Beatrice, bagged six years im jail while Dr. Obinna Obeta was jailed for 10 years.

Before Friday’s verdict by the court, several local and international bodies and personalities had pleaded for clemency for the embattled former Deputy Senate President.

Recall that the trio were found guilty by Justice Jeremy Johnson Central Criminal Court Old Bailey, London, and convicted in March under the Modern Slavery Act of the United Kingdom.

Leading the plea for clemency for the Ekweremadus was former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and later was joined by the two chambers of Nigeria’s National Assembly, the ECOWAS parliament as well as the International Human Rights Commission (IHRC).

At various times, they had appealed to the British Government and Parliament to plead with the court to temper justice with mercy in the case.
