Breaking: Court forbids CBN to release allocation to Rivers

The Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria to stop releasing monthly financial allocations to Rivers State Government.

Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, who presided over the suit ruled that the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, violated the constitution by presenting the 2024 budget before a four -member Rivers House of Assembly.

She further said the continued release of the monthly allocations since January this year was an error that must not be sustained.

The Judge, who also held that Fubara was implementing an unlawful budget in utter disregard to the provisions of the 1999 Constitution, ordered the CBN, Accountant General of the Federation, Zenith Bank, and Access Bank not to allow the governor access to money the Consolidated Revenue and Federation Account.
