Dele Farotimi, the embattled activist lawyer and writer, has met his bail conditions and consequently regained his freedom.
Omoyele Sowore, the former presidential hopeful, disclosed the development on Tuesday, adding in a post on X that the lawyer had left the Ekiti prison and returning home in Lagos.
“I am pleased to report that Dele Farotimi is no longer being held at the prison yards in Ekiti state and is now returning home to Lagos. The struggle continues!” Sowore wrote.
Farotimi was arrested earlier in the month for allegedly defaming Afe Babalola, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, ABUAD, in his recently published book on criminal justice administration in Nigeria.
He was subsequently arraigned in a Chief Magistrate Court in Ado Ekiti magistrate court, which granted him a N30 million bail and ordered his remand in a correctional centre in Ado Ekiti, the Ekiti State capital.
