Breaking: Abure reinstated as Labour Party chairman

Julius Abure was on Tuesday returned as the national chairman of the Labour Party, LP by a Federal High Court in Abuja.

According to a statement issued Tuesday by Obiora Ifoh, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, the court upheld the 2024 Labour Party national convention in Nnewi, which re-elected Abure, saying exercise met all laid down laws in Nigeria.

Justice Emeka Nwite, who delivered the ruling ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to recognise and accord all privileges to the Labour Party’s National Working Committee, NWC, as led by Abure.

The INEC had earlier stated its non-recognition of Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party, arguing that the Abure-led LP leadership, which emerged from the March 2024 National Convention, was invalid, adding that it contravened both the Nigerian Constitution and the Electoral Act.
