It was gathered that the operation, which has been confirmed by military sources, was coordinated, following reliable intelligence that the Islamic State of West Africa Province, ISWAP, fighters had converged in large numbers where they were planning to launch fresh attacks.

Alhaji Modu and his supervisor, Ali Ngoshe, had their operational base inside the caves in Mandara mountain and coordinated attacks on Nigeria,  Niger Republic and Cameroon.
