Black Friday as 17 persons are roasted to death in Ogun petrol tanker fire

Tragedy struck along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in Ogun State on Friday when a petrol tanker caught fire, roasting no fewer than 17 persons.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) put the time of the incident at about  5am in the Isara bridge area.

According to the spokesperson of the FRSC in Ogun, Florence Okpe, whereas the Corps was able to identify one man, one woman and a girl, the bodies of the other 14 victims were burnt beyond recognition.

Okpe said, “The total number of people involved is not ascertained, but a total of 17 bodies (killed) have been identified.

“One male, one female, and one female child only have been identified, while others were burnt beyond recognition and no injury sustained.

“The suspected causes of the fatal crash were route violation and dangerous driving, which resulted in a head-on collision and fire outbreak.”

She further disclosed that the tanker had a head-on collision with a Mazda bus, with ZT728 KLD, as registration number.
