The Acting Director, Ibadan Zonal Office, Mrs. Olajumoke Adeleke, has urged tertiary institutions both Universities and Polytechnics to be fair in their admission process by admitting students on merit into their academic programmes.
Adeleke spoke at a roundtable discussion with a delegate from The Polytechnic, Ibadan in her office at Agodi-Gate, Ibadan, on Friday, 11th October, 2024. The delegation was led by the Ag. Rector, Dr. Taiwo Lasisi
Adeleke said that the meeting was to strengthen and promote effective service delivery, particularly as it relates to the admission process.
She urged the management of The Polytechnic Ibadan to join the examination in fighting corruption and illegal admissions, saying that offering admissions to undeserving candidates was tantamount to putting a round peg in a square hole.
Adeleke reiterated the Board will not compromise it’s standard as related to admission quota while also condemning the inordinate drive by some institutions to generated revenue through the institutionalization of unaccredited programmes such as ‘Daily Part-Time Programme,’ which she stated was capable of negatively impacting the credibility of certificates awarded by the nation’s tertiary institutions.
Responding, Dr. Lasisi commended JAMB for restoring faith in the admission process through the deployment of relevant technology and transparent leadership.
He also expressed appreciation to the Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, for providing a level playing field for all candidates irrespective of status, and assured the Board of his institution’s readiness to comply with all extant policies and guidelines on admissions.
