BBNaija Khafi: Between the web of lust and job ethics

At first, her motive sounded very encouraging to the womenfolk, home and abroad.  She was a police officer, who ventured into the famous Big Brother Naija Reality Show to prove that black women are a positive force to be reckoned with anywhere in the world. Her activities in the house in the last few weeks, however, are currently portraying her in the opposite direction, as she is presently the only housemate with the hottest pant. Pretty BBNaija Khafi Kareem is not only being scolded by fans for her sexual escapades, she is faced with the possibilities of losing her job after her time out in the house, writes MUTIAT LAWORE.

For her sexual acts in the current Big Brother Naija Reality Show, in the past few weeks, Ekiti-born UK police officer, Khafi Kareem, is presently one of the trending housemates.

When the video of her first sex act with fellow housemate, Gedoni Ekpata, hit the social media space; a lot of fans were quick to shade her for the record. But when the London police officer did not appear remorseful, as to have gotten her neck deeper into more romps of the shameful act, more viewers and some of the evicted housemates particularly, could not but come to the conclusion that her action was nothing but intentional.

On Monday, August 12, 2019, however, the Internet went agog with different reactions when the officials of the Metropolitan Police indicated that the officer, Khafi, went on the reality show without the permission of the force.

According to a report by British newspaper, The Sun, the 29-year-old joined the police in 2015, having worked part-time, as a special constable for four years. She was also a former bit-part actress and shop assistant and is equally seen, as the poster girl of the diversity of the Metropolitan Police and female empowerment through governmental institutions in Britain. Khafi Kareem stood alongside Cressida Dick, Commissioner of Police, as the organisation celebrated 100 years of women’s enlistment in the force last year.

Stressing further, the publication said she is due to face sanctions or possible dismissal from Scotland Yard, which has promised that an internal investigation would be carried out because her request to appear on the programme was not granted.

“She’s a serving British police officer – it’s outrageous,” The Sun quoted an unnamed colleague of the Scotland Yard officer as saying.

But  Khafi didn’t make any secret of her status, as a police officer in the UK at the official opening of the show, as she was said to have told Multichoice Nigeria, owners of Africa Magic, the television channel, which broadcasts Big Brother Naija, that she was drawn to the show “so that she can do societal some good.”

“Joining the London Police Force, for me, was my own way of telling women that with the broken pieces of their past they can build a beautiful edifice of hope. In my interview with London News this year, I explained to them that being a police woman goes beyond the physical attributes men possess.

“People forget we are human, with a home and family, people who care about us. Some of the visits I do, people have never seen a black woman police officer.

“Apart from once, I have never been treated differently in the Met. These days, though, it can be more subtle and less overt.

“Stop and search has been disproportionate against black people. But sometimes, there will be a group of black boys, talking and my colleagues will go ‘What’s happening there?’ and I will be able to say ‘They are just having a conversation’. I do not think there is a magic wand to make it better.”

“It is on this premise, I chose to go into the Big Brother Naija 2019 house to send a message that every woman can be whoever or whatever they choose to become,” she had said.

The Met Police aren’t happy………

As an organisation, The Met Police isn’t happy that an officer from their squad will ridicule the image of the entire Metropolitan officers, not just about appearing on the reality show but also portraying them in bad light.

One of the officers, who spoke in confidence, said: “She asked for permission to go on the show, but when her request was refused, she went anyway.”

Although she was granted leave for an unrelated reason, senior officers at Scotland Yard are dismayed that she is on live TV, according to them, putting name of the Force, in disrepute.

Responding, a spokesman of The Metropolitan Police stated: “A Pc, attached to the Met’s transformation command, requested permission to take part in a reality television entertainment show in Nigeria. Permission was not given.

“The Directorate of Professional Standards has been informed and will be carrying out an investigation into the circumstances.

“The Met does not support the officer’s appearance, nor does she represent the Met whilst appearing on the show.”

Khafi is on her own – Met Police

The Metropolitan Police spokesman noted that Khafi is on her own and her appearance does not represent the Force while on the show.

“The Met does not support the officer’s appearance nor does she represent the Met whilst appearing on the show.”

The Metropolitan police also noted that all its officers have to behave with professionalism, something which Khafi has not exhibited by participating in BBNaija 2019.

“All officers have a duty to behave with professionalism and in a manner that does not bring The Met into disrepute whether on or off duty.”

Khafi’s Management’s reaction…

However, responding to the widespread publication on Tuesday, the team managing the social media accounts of the Big Brother Naija 2019 housemate has threatened legal action against The Sun of UK.

Through a press statement on Tuesday by the handlers of her Instagram account, @acupofkhafi, her team is demanding The Sun to apologise and retract the report within 48 hours or face legal action for publishing without her side of the story.

“This brazenly sensational and defamatory outburst by The Sun UK is written in poor taste, without considering the ethics of journalism, which seeks balance and objectivity.

“At no time did The Sun UK send a mail of inquiry to Khafi’s official email, which is blasted across her social media platforms under active management, to confirm or refute the claims in the publication.

“Khafi’s side of the story is deliberately and conveniently omitted to sell a preconceived narrative, while responses from outraged colleagues and other papers riddle the publication,” the statement stated.

Further, it said: “This comes from a repressive culture of shaming and characterising women for their sexual decisions and life choices.

“We find The Sun UK’s publication repulsive and damaging to the image and livelihood of our client.

“Khafi is a proud black female police officer, who prides herself in her work and has dedicated her youthful years, protecting and serving with her many skills, which include the ability to speak, at least, five international languages.”

The possibility of losing her job………

With the intense investigation being carried out by The Met team; there is a possibility that the BBNaija star might part ways with her work, as a result of misconduct.     Some followers of the reality show, who tagged  her action, as a national disgrace have also aired their views on the issue.

According to the words of The Metropolitan Police, Khafi may be dealt with for misconduct proceedings after breaching the police standards of professional behaviour.

“Those who do not behave professionally risk breaching police standards of professional behaviour, and may be dealt with by way of misconduct proceedings.”

For On-air-personality, Daddy Freeze, “While some will say it’s her life, I wonder why she would do something I personally consider quite reckless? Like putting a good job with benefit and future on the line for a few followers and likes on Instagram. How much is 60 million that she cannot earn from her job in two to three years?
