The Bayelsa State Independent Electoral Commission has fixed July 27, 2019 for the Local Government elections across the state.
Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Perekeme Bertola, who announced the date at a stakeholders’ meeting, on Saturday, in Yenagoa, said the body would henceforth hold regular consultative meetings with all the parties and other stakeholders to ensure a successful election.
Bertola assured the stakeholders that the elections would be free, fair, credible and conclusive.

“We shall uphold all tenets of democracy and ensure that the process is fair and seen by all to be so,” he said.
The elections will involve eight local government chairmanship positions and 105 councillorship slots.
Leaders of political parties, civil society groups and youth organisations were among the stakeholders at the meeting.
