Isaac Ombe, Yenagoa

Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State and a former Minister of State, Petroleum, Timipre Sylva, has expressed dissatisfaction with the Bayelsa Governorship Election Tribunal verdict.

Recall that the Tribunal had declared Governor Douye Diri winner of the election which took place November 11.

Shortly after the Tribunal’s verdict , Sylva convened stakeholders meeting with elders and members of the APC in the state.

After the brain storming meeting, Chief Sylva requested his lawyers to proceed to the Court of Appeal.

It would be recalled that Sylva’s team had even filed an Interlocutory Appeal accusing the Tribunal of bias.

Chief Sylva assured his supporters that the appellate court would right the travesty perpetrated by the Tribunal.

In a statement made available by his Special Assistant on Media and Public Affairs, Julius Bokoru, Sylva enjoined Bayelsans to remain positive, law-abiding and steadfast for liberation is close and Justice is inevitable.

In interview with journalists shortly after the verdict, Sylva had said, “No quantum of miscarriage of justice will make me lose confidence in the Nigerian judicial system. It’s all we have.

“Some of the finest Nigerians I know are in our judiciary. What surprised me in today’s judgement is: an ‘Election Petitions Tribunal’ making conclusive findings on criminal allegations without calling witnesses or experts. Well, considering the antecedents of this Tribunal we are not surprised. Thankfully we can still seek redress in the Appellate Courts”.
