Ahead of the coming governorship elections in Bayelsa State, Chief Timipre Sylva, the candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that he would make 100% use of the aboundant gas deposits in the state .
Sylva who informed that the state has over 20 trillion fit of gas deposits, decried that successive administrations in the state haven’t tapped power and other developmental purposes from it.
Chief Sylva spoke at the inaugural ceremony of the national Campaign Council which took place, in Yenagoa, Friday afternoon, recalled that his first tenure as governor of the state witnessed an uninterrupted power supply as gas turbines were acquired to tap into the rich gas deposits in the state.

He alleged that after he left office these turbines were sold by the government that took over.
Flanked by the national chairman of the APC, Abdullahi Ganduje, and other top members of the party, Sylva lamented that the state has large deposits of gas but can’t make use of it and promised to make judicious use of the gas deposits if elected as governor.
“The state had uninterrupted power supply during my first tenure as governor.
“Gas turbines I acquired were sold by the government that took over. The gas turbines that belong to the state were sold” recalled Sylva who says the large gas deposits will be in proper use.
“We have lots of gas. We have 20 trillion cubic gas deposits in the state. Yet we can’t make use of it. I will make 100% use of it if elected as governor of this state”, added Sylva who stated that his administration will bring something new through a six point agenda and he will hit the ground running immediatly he’s sworn in because the time would be too short for him. Hence he has only one tenure as provided by the constitution.

According to the APC guber candidate, his six point agenda would include the development of human resources which would include education and massive skills acquisition for youths in the state; infrastructural development which would include massive road constructions to link various river-rine communities, water supply, housing infrastructure amongst others.
Sylva who said “we must develop an economy to sustain the state”, noted that the gas deposits would be harnessed to sustain the development of the state.
The state also has 185 Kms of coastline but successive administrations have not bothered to cue into the richness of the blue economy of the state. He said that instead foreign countries had been having a field day in fishing in and out of the state’s rich coastline.
The six point agenda would also include agriculture culture with focus on massive rice production .
He continued, “We have swamps because rice does well in swamps.
