Bandits: Attempts to turn Yoruba land to bandits’ foothold will be resisted, Gani Adams vows

The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, has vowed that any attempts to turn the South West into bandits’ foothold will be resisted.

In a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr Kehinde Aderemi, Adams was reacting to the alarm raised by Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde on the influx of bandits from the North-West to the South West.

According to the generalissimo of Yoruba land, Adams charged South West governors not to take lightly the alarm by governor Makinde adding that it was real. He urged the governors to be vigilant in securing the region.

He noted that the country is experiencing insecurity especially in the North West and therefore the warning by governor Makinde should not be ignored.

“The alarm raised by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State was a wake-up call for all the governors in the South West. I raised a similar alarm last year and nothing was done and it is sad that up to the present time nothing has really changed, except that insecurity is increasing by the day.,” the statement stated.

He added that under his watch, the South West Security Stakeholders Group, SSSG, have been doing its best to.secure the region but needs the support of the governors in view of the latest warning.

“But now that Governor Makinde has raised the alarm, there is a need for an urgent approach to address the situation before it gets out of hand. So, I urge governors in the South West to be vigilant and do the needful by addressing the security situation in their respective states before it is too late. We will resist any attempt to turn Yoruba land into bandits and kidnappers’ foothold.
