Awolowo, Akintola Railway Stations shut

The ever-busy Obafemi Awolowo Train Station at Moniya and the Ladoke Akintola Train Station at Omi-Adio, both in Ibadan, Oyo State, on Thursday, were shut by protesting railway workers.

The Obafemi Awolowo and Ladoke Akintola railway stations had been ‘invaded’ by irate workers protesting their working conditions and welfare packages for them.

Some of the workers, who were seen at the Obafemi Awolowo station, in Moniya, were armed with placards with various inscriptions denouncing the way their treatment by railway authorities.

They claimed their actions had the backing of their national officers.

It was gathered that the train was supposed to leave by 8:00am but did not because of the strike embarked upon by the Nigerian Union Railway Workers.
