Aug.1 deadline for motorcycles, tricycles to obtain number plates stands – FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Benue State says no going back on August 1 deadline for all motorcycles and tricycles in the state to obtain number plates.

The command’s Public Enlightenment Officer, Ms Joyce Akura, made this known in a statement in Makurdi on Wednesday.

Akura said that the measures was part of strategies to curb criminal activities and road crashes in the state and country.

According to her, the enforcement of the policy would commence on August 1 and violators of the deadline will face prosecution.

She disclosed that FRSC in the state was collaborating with the state’s Board of Internal Revenue Service (BIRS) to ensure that the process of obtaining the number plate was less cumbersome for the people.

Akura explained that the decision on the enforcement was also informed by the need to improve on the existing database of national driver’s licence and vehicles’ registration.

“The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has posited that there is urgent need to get motorcycles and tricycles registered in order to enhance national security.

“It is also to fulfil extant laws by obtaining Class ‘A’ Rider’s Licence with effect from August 1, 2019,” she added. (NAN)
