ARDA trains Lagos media on women’s representation in politics

ARDA Development Communication Incorporated, recently trained Lagos based media personnel on effective representation matters, focusing on women in political leadership and governance.

 

The one day capacity training held recently in Lagos, aimed to equip media professionals and organizations with technical knowledge and skills to enhance women’s representation in political leadership.

 

It was organised by ARDA Development Communication Incorporated under the Advance Women Political Participation in Nigeria (AWPP) Project funded by the Canadian Government through the United Nations Women.

 

Jesudunsin Olusanya, facilitator and Managing Partner at Nigeria’s Premier Gender Consulting Company (WGCCo), said women’s political leadership and participation is not just a matter of justice and human rights, but it is essential for national development, economic growth and Nation building.

 

Olusanya said by addressing the systemic barriers and implementative supportive polices, Nigeria can pave the way for a more inclusive and representative governance structure.

 

 

Priscila Fibersima, AWPP Project Manager and Senior ARDA Program Officer disclosed that the training held in Lagos not only solidifies the message that women’s representation in political leadership and governance matters but is a significant step towards achieving Sustainable Development Goal 5 (target 5.5) that ensures women’s full and effective participation and equal opportunities for leadership at all levels of decision-making in political, economic, and public life.

in governance.
