Appearance of bandits causes panic in Zamfara villages

Bandits, in their dozens, riding motorcycles were, on Wednesday, sighted on a road along Mayanchi village in Maru local government area of Zamfara State.

According to some eyewitness accounts, the bandits passed  through the villages without harassing or injuring anybody but their appearance, in dozens, made some of the villagers to panic as they thought the bandits might cause havoc.

Malam Sani Suleiman who said he saw the bandits passing on their motorbikes, said the bandits just passed through the villages without touching any person or property.

Some eyewitness accounts said the bandits visited some shops and bought some essentials without paying for what they bought before leaving.

The bandits were also said to have bought petrol for some of the motorcycles at one of the filling stations along the road which they passed through without paying the fuel attendants.

When contacted, the Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), Zamfara State Police Command, SP Mohammed Shehu, said the bandits were on transit.

“What happened yesterday at kwanar mayanci at about 13:15hrs has no link to Boko Haram, it was some repentant bandits who were passing through the area to Birnin Gwari in Kaduna state”, he said.
