President Muhammadu Buhari may have stirred the hornet’s nest by declaring that it would not be fair on members of the All Progressives party (APC) to have their fate determined by one Lagos-based individual.
President Buhari, on Thursday morning, was quoted to have said this in an exclusive interview with a team of journalists from Arise TV.
Speaking on zoning and succession plan, the President reiterated that the APC would be the sole deciding factor and no one else.
Said he, “Shouldn’t we allow the party to decide, I just told you that we started from the bottom to the top.
“I told the acting chairman and a committee to give me the report by the end of the month on the convention they are going to conduct and then arrange general elections until 2023. All the elections.
“And we started this from bottom to the up, so that members of the party will be sure they are involved in decision-making.
“Nobody is just going to sit in Lagos and tell them what to do. This is what we are arranging.
“Succession plan depends on the party. The party will sit and make its decision by the constituencies they won.
“So, those who want to be president, better join APC.”
The President also rebuffed claims that joining his party (APC) automatically exonerated corrupt Nigerians from prosecution, saying that those who hold such views are not being fair to his regime.
