Angry protesters on the rampage in Lekki

Shootings are still being heard in Lekki where soldiers stormed on Tuesday evening, firing live bullets at unarmed citizens protesting against police brutality.

As at midday Wednesday, the angry youths were still engaged in a cat-and-mouse game with the police.

The youths mounted barricades on the roads, which the policemen went round dismantling and chasing the protesters away.

As soon as the policemen left the scene, the youths returned to the roads and mounted new barricades.

Unconfirmed reports currently making the rounds, especially on social media, have it that there are snipers on top of some highrise buildings around the Lekki tollgate area.

Some of the shots fired at the protesters were said to have been fired from such building tops.

Some of the protesting youths interviewed said they resorted to violence after soldiers stormed the venue of their peaceful protest at the Lekki Toll Gate and shot at them.

One of them who had a bandage on his leg said he was shot, adding that some of their friends were still in a nearby hospital receiving treatment.
