ANAN donates N100m Accounting Research Centre to Usmanu Danfodio University

The Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) has donated a N100 million Accounting Research Centre to Usmanu Danfodio University, Sokoto.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the centre was named “Leadership, Accounting Development and Networking (LADAN) Centre’’.

Inaugurating the building on Thursday in Sokoto, ANAN President, Alhaji Shehu Ladan, said the donation of the research centre to the university was meant to advance the Science of Accountancy.

Ladan said the centre was the seventh research centre donated by ANAN to universities in Nigeria, saying that the association also donated Accounting laboratories and books to tertiary institutions.

He said the efforts were in fulfilment of the mandate conferred on the association by Laws of the Federation of Nigeria.

“This is to advance the Science of Accountancy in Nigeria, pioneering the production of well-rounded, well-blended and well-honed professionals, profound in knowledge, skilful in practice and ethical conduct.

“Moreover, we are convinced that the advancement of the Science of Accountancy can be better achieved through research and availability of relevant books.

“The choice of Usmanu Danfodio University for this centre is borne out of the institution’s contributions to educational development.

“This is especially for accountancy education and in furtherance of our quest for advancing the science of accountancy in this part of the country,’’ he said.

The ANAN president said that the centre was constructed, equipped and fully furnished by the association and urged the university management to link it with internet facilities in line with global trend.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi Zuru, expressed the university’s appreciation to ANAN for the singular generousity and giant stride in the course of humanity.

Zuru assured the Governing Council of ANAN that the entire university community was grateful for the gesture.

“The entire university community will continue to remain grateful to you for your resolve to give back to the society by way of providing a facility that will promote research and development.

“Mr president you and your council have demonstrated to the world that your association is unique and a pacesetter; you lead the way and others follow your trail,’’ Zuru said.

He expressed total commitment to the maintenance of the edifice and sustenance of the innovation intended of the project.

According to him, the centre will surely facilitate wider understanding of accounting profession which is more than the traditional perspective of knowledge of only financial keeping but to all activities of life.

The vice chancellor assured that the management would ensure closer monitoring of the activities and programmes of the centre and diligently execute the terms and conditions of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed. (NAN)
