The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has given reason it extended voting time in the Anambra State gubernatorial election.
The extension of time was granted even as counting of ballots had commenced in some areas in Awka, the state capital.
However, the electoral umpire decided to allow more time to accommodate voters where it experienced hitches.
Briefing journalists in Awka, the state INEC Resident Electoral Commission, Nkwachukwu Orji, said the decision to extend voting time was as a result of complaints the commission received as regards malfunctioning machines in some areas.
