There are strong indications that immediate past Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Sen. Godswill Obot Akpabio might dump his Party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The reason, however, was believed to be his desire to return to the Senate. He is being rumours to want a defection to the Young Progressives Party (YYP) to continue pursue his 2023 senatorial bid.
According to a source, Sen. Akpabio was concluding plans to quit the APC if he fails to settle his issue with a retired Deputy Inspector general of Police, Mr. Udom Ekpoudom who is currently holding Ikot Ekpene senatorial district ticket.

Sen. Akpabio was Akwa Ibom State governor from 2007 to 2015 under people democratic party (PDP) before he dumped the party after he won senatorial seat to joined All progressive congress (APC) in 2019.
He, however, resigned from Niger Delta Affairs Ministry as a minister to contest for 2023 presidency, which he was aspirant before he stepped down for eventual winner of the contest, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
Recall that aAfter Sen. Akpabio failed to secure Presidential ticket, he reportedly secretly purchased senatorial form to contest for Ikot Ekpene senatorial district election after APC done with all primaries.

However, Akpabio secretly declared himself as a winner of Ikot Ekpene senatorial ticket without standing for election, after former DIG, Mr. Ekpoudom has already won senatorial ticket.
When APC sent Akpabio name to Independent National electoral commission (INEC) rejected it, citing that the former governor was never for a day stood for senatorial district election in Akwa Ibom State.
But the source claimed that Akpabio has not yet decamped to any Party but he may do that soon.
