A woman, Fausat Adeyemi has narrated how police in Ilorin, Kwara State killed her son, Sulaimon Adeyemi, over a N400,000 dispute.

According to her, the police were attempting to arrest her son in the Tanke area of Ilorin and in the process beat and inflicted serious injuries on him leading to his death.

Narrating what led to the dispute, Fausat said her son who was a student and waiting for National Youth Service had dispute with his friend over a N400,000

She said the deceased was in a business deal with his friend which involved a payment of N2.4 million into his account adding that having paid N2 million to his friend , he promised to pay the balance of N400,000 later.

However, a dispute arose between the two friends concerning the balance which prompted his friend to lay a complaint at Ganmo Police Station.

She further said three police officers from the station went to arrest Suleiman but instead of arresting him, they beat him brutally despite pleas from onlookers for them to leave him.

She called on the police authority to ensure justice is done for the family after the three police officers and the complainant were arrested.

Reacting to the incident, the Kwara State Police Commissioner, Victor Olaiya, has assured the family that the three police officers would be properly charged after completion of the autopsy.

Also, speaking on the incident, spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the deceased resisted arrest which led to scuffle between him and the police officers.

“When the police went there to effect the arrest after they had previously invited him but did not respond, it was when they went to effect the arrest that he refused to follow them. This led to a struggle, which resulted in the unfortunate incident. The investigation is ongoing, and the officers involved have been arrested,” she said.
