Again, gunmen kill two in Rivers residents

Barely 24 hours after the killing of five residents, gunmen suspected to be cultists again, invaded Rivers Community, killed two persons.

It was gathered the gunmen on Monday killed two persons at Odiokwu junction in Ula-Ehuda, Igbu Akoh, Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State after killing five persons early hours of Sunday, in were killed in Edeoha Community, Upata.

The Public Relations Officer of Igbu-Akoh, Hector Chinem disclosed to Journalists on Monday, that on Sunday, natives observed movement of some persons dressed in military rain wear, only for natives to wake up Monday morning to observed litters of dead bodies riddled with bullets.

The spokesperson for the Igbu-Akoh regretted that the killing is coming barely 24 hours after five persons were killed in Edeoha community.

Mr Chinem however, called on the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Mustapha to as a matter of urgency strengthen security of the area, saying that remnants of cult groups have invaded the communities.

Chinem also pleaded with youth of the LGA to lay down their arms and allow peace reign.

Reports available to this daily indicates that there is heightened tension in the LGA as some natives have started fleeing.

The spokesperson for the State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko was yet to respond to the Monday killing as at the time of filing this report, but had earlier confirmed the killings of Sunday in Edeoha community.
