How good is Gov Akinwumi Ambode in the round leather game? This would be put to test during the “thank you” game being put together for the governor May 18 at the Onikan waterfront by Nigerian ex internationals.
Organizers of the event told The Nigerian Xpress Sports yesterday that the out going Lagos State governor would take to the pitch himself to try out his penalty skills against former Super Eagles first choice keeper, Peter Rufai.
Rufai fondly called Dodo Mayana by his admirers in a chat with The Nigerian Xpress Sports said Gov Ambode has vowed to find the back of the net during the interval of the Africa X1 versus Naija Legends game.
“The governor has assured he would be playing the game and his target would be to score from the spot against me. We will see how skillful the governor is on that day. It promises to be fun,” Rufai said.
The Naija Legends squad would be made up of the likes of former Super Eagles coach, Samson Siasia, Friday Elahor, Friday Ekpo, Austin Jay Jay Okocha, Kanu Nwankwo, Dan Amokachi and Austin Eguavoen.
Ivorian football legend, Didier Drogba would lead the African Legends with former world footballer of the year, Liberian President George Weah serving as technical adviser.
Waidi Akanni who is leading the planning of the event said it would be a befitting show to say a big thank you to a governor that did a lot to support football.
