AFCON: NYSC member slumps, dies watching Nigeria,South Africa penalty shootout

A member of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC), serving in Numan, Adamawa State, simply identified as Samuel, slumped and died while watching Nigeria’s Super Eagles clash with South Africa’s Bafana Bafana, on Wednesday.

 

 

 

 

 

An eyewitness said that the corps member slumped at a Sports Viewing Center while celebrating Nigeria’s victory before the Super Eagles took their last penalty kick which took them to the final.

“He died before they could reach the hospital,’ the eye witness said.

 

 

 

 

Confirming the incident, the NYSC Coordinator in Adamawa State, Mr. Jingi Dennis, said he received the news of the death on Wednesday’s night.

 

 

 

 

“According to his colleagues who went with him to watch the match, the late corps member told them that he doesn’t like watching penalty shootout, he then bowed his head and all of a sudden he collapsed. He was confirmed dead at the General Hospital in Numan by the doctor,” he said.
