Adapting to school environment in U.S. not an easy task- former national junior hurdler

Bashiru Abdullahi, a student-athlete at the California State University, U.S., on Wednesday said that he was still finding it hard adapting to his new surroundings.

Abdullahi, a freshman, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on telephone from his base that even though schooling in the U.S. was an awesome experience for him, he was working hard to combine school and sport.

“School here in America is cool, the environment is awesome and everything is going on fine. Being a freshman is so much stress because I am still trying to get familiar with the new environment, school work and at the same time practice,’’ he said.

The Kinesiology student said that he was grateful that in spite of the seemingly difficult nature of the task at hand, he was still doing well on the track.

“I feel good right now because even with the stress I’m still running fast and I believe that I am going to run faster,’’ he said.

NAN reports that the athlete broke his 60m hurdles personal record of 7.96secs set in December 2018 to 7.84 seconds in the University of New Mexico Indoor meet.

Abdullahi is an 110m hurdles gold medallist at the 2015 African Junior Championships. (NAN)
